Help our residents live life to the fullest

Are you creative, enthusiastic and passionate about helping older people enjoy meaningful and fulfilling lives? Jewish Care is looking for an Activities Organiser to develop and deliver an engaging programme of activities that brings people together, promotes independence and makes every day more enjoyable for our residents.

This role is working 39 hours per week Monday to Friday and 1 in 4 Sundays

About the Role

As our Activities Organiser, you will play an important role in creating a lively, inclusive and stimulating environment where residents can enjoy activities that reflect their individual interests, abilities and needs.

You will plan, organise and lead a varied programme of social, recreational, educational and therapeutic activities, including outings and opportunities to connect with the wider Jewish community. Working closely with residents, families, colleagues and volunteers, you will encourage participation, support social connections and help residents maintain their independence, dignity and wellbeing.

You will also involve residents in shaping the activities programme, source and book suitable events, coordinate volunteers and ensure activities and outings are appropriately planned, with risk assessments in place.

The role is normally Monday to Friday, with additional hours available at weekends during festivals.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Creating engaging activities: Plan and deliver a varied programme tailored to residents' interests, abilities and individual needs.
  • Making a difference every day: Encourage participation in activities that promote wellbeing, independence, social interaction and a sense of purpose.
  • Building community connections: Maintain links with the Jewish community and wider community, creating opportunities for residents to enjoy events and activities beyond the home.
  • Working with volunteers: Help recruit, coordinate and support volunteers who contribute to activities and outings.
  • Listening to residents: Facilitate resident committee meetings and use feedback to develop a programme that reflects what matters to them.
  • Planning safely: Source and book activities, prepare reports and complete appropriate risk assessments, taking account of residents' individual needs.
  • Working collaboratively: Build positive relationships with colleagues, families, community organisations and external activity providers.
  • Bringing fresh ideas: Use your creativity and initiative to introduce new activities and opportunities that enrich residents' lives.

What You'll Need

You'll be a creative, compassionate and positive individual who enjoys working with older people and understands the importance of person-centred care. You will have experience of working with people living with dementia, an awareness of how dementia can affect individuals, and experience of working with individuals and groups as part of a team.

You'll also bring:

  • Dementia awareness training.
  • A First Aid at Work certificate, or a willingness to undertake first aid training.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner.
  • The ability to plan, organise and lead a wide range of appropriate activities.
  • Initiative, creativity and the confidence to work independently.
  • Good IT skills, including experience of Publisher, Excel and Outlook.
  • The ability to use the internet to source and book activities.
  • The ability to prepare reports and undertake risk assessments.
  • Sensitivity to residents' individual needs, with the ability to listen sympathetically and demonstrate compassion.
  • A commitment to teamwork, personal development and delivering a high-quality, flexible and responsive service.
  • Experience of organising recreational activities in a care setting, working with volunteers, knowledge of Jewish values, culture and festivals, and an awareness of health and safety legislation would also be advantageous.
