24 hours per week | Community-based – Redbridge and Southend with travel

Make a meaningful difference in your community

At Jewish Care, we believe that living with dementia should not mean losing connection, purpose or the opportunity to enjoy life within your community.

We are looking for a Community Dementia Assistant to join our Community Dementia Team and help people living with dementia and their families access meaningful activities, support and opportunities for connection.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will combine community engagement, programme coordination, partnership working and direct interaction with people living with dementia and their families.

  • 24hrs, 4 days Mon-Thurs.
  • Main base is Redbridge IG4 and at Southend  SS0 (at least 2 a month)

There will be travel involved and regular times when they need to work across other Hubs and areas

About the role

Working within an allocated geographical area and reporting to the Community Hub Manager, you will help coordinate and deliver our community dementia programmes, ensuring they are welcoming, inclusive and responsive to the needs of the people who use them.

You will build trusted relationships with people living with dementia and their families, providing information, practical support and signposting where appropriate. You will also work closely with synagogues, volunteers, community organisations and health and social care professionals to strengthen local connections and develop opportunities for people affected by dementia.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Support the day-to-day delivery of community dementia programmes and activities.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with people living with dementia and their families.
  • Help identify local needs and contribute ideas for developing our services.
  • Build relationships with synagogues, community organisations and other local partners.
  • Support and coordinate volunteers involved in our programmes.
  • Contribute to dementia awareness, volunteer and programme training.
  • Monitor attendance, feedback and the impact of our activities.
  • Share ideas, resources and learning with colleagues across the Community Dementia Team.
  • Promote dementia inclusion and challenge stigma within the wider community.

Although you will have a defined geographical area, you will be part of a collaborative team, sharing ideas and supporting colleagues across different communities and contributing to team-wide events, initiatives and celebrations.

About you

You don't need to have a formal qualification in dementia care to succeed in this role. We are looking for someone who is warm, empathetic, organised and genuinely interested in people and their communities.

You will have experience of working in a community setting and experience of working with, or volunteering alongside, volunteers. You will understand the needs and challenges faced by people living with dementia and their families and be able to build trusting relationships with a wide range of people.

You will also be confident working independently, using your initiative and managing your own area of responsibility, while enjoying working collaboratively as part of a wider team.

A qualification or equivalent experience in dementia or health and social care, experience of working with older people, or knowledge of the Jewish community would be advantageous, but what matters most is your attitude, compassion and commitment to making a positive difference.
